Cardinal Mooney has been fortunate to have had an outstanding baseball program for many years. The Varsity Baseball team has demonstrated great potential as a contender for State Championships on numerous occasions, yet the team has fallen short more than we would like. Now, with new players this season along with amazing coaches such as Coach Enos (who has 24 years of baseball coaching experience) Cougar fans are hopeful once again. As of this writing, the Cougars Varsity team has a record of six wins and five losses. With more than a dozen games remaining (not counting playoffs) the time is right for the Cougars to make their “run for the ring.”
The Junior Varsity Baseball team has a current record of three wins, four losses, and one tie. The team, like Varsity, has amazing coaches. They are Chris Stiegler and Mike Mercurio. Coach Stiegler is the JV pitching coach in his second year with the team. He graduated from Riverview High School in the class of ‘04 and went on to play baseball at the University of South Florida. Coach Mercurio is also a magnificent coach. He graduated from Cardinal Mooney in the class of ‘85. During his four years at Cardinal Mooney he played golf, baseball, and basketball. Coach Mercurio is a Lieutenant with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, where he has been employed for 30 years.
Good luck Cougar Baseball!
