Ben is excited to be assisting Coach McDonald this year. He also serves as a coach for Track and Field. He was a former Head Girls Track Coach at his previous school in Cleveland, OH where he was twice voted conference coach of the year. Coach Farmer teaches sophomore math at Mooney and coaches the Academic Olympics.
Christi Nottolini McDonald ( Head Coach)
Christi begins her 7th season as the Cardinal Mooney Cross Country Coach. She is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin and has been coaching for over 20 years. Christi loves sharing her passion for distance running with young athletes- their spirit inspires her to keep moving! She has 4 children and her husband is a Cardinal Mooney baseball coach.
Jay Henderson(Assistant Coach)
Coach Henderson graduated from John Baptist Memorial High School in Bangor, Maine. He then attended the University of Maine where he ran Cross Country and Track and Field. Coach Henderson also joined the Cougar track and field coaching staff this past spring and helped coach the distance runners. Jay is married to Tracy and they have 2 children Blake and Mackenzie is a sophomore here at Mooney and is a member of both the Cross Country and Track team.
Head Coach Chad Sutton: Graduating Florida State University with B.S. in Sport Management and pursuing teaching physical education. He is fully committed to coaching volleyball. Chad is a director for Orlando Tampa Volleyball Academy (largest volleyball club in the US). This is Coach Sutton’s 3rd season at Cardinal Mooney, previously spending 5 seasons at Sarasota High. Chad Sutton is a certified US CAP III Level Coach and twice named HT Prep’s “Coach of the Year”
Assistant Coach Nate Pickett: Graduating from Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida and competing in a variety of varsity sports including baseball, football, cross country, track and field, and weightlifting. Nate attended Florida Institute of Technology then graduated from University of Illinois with his degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. At the age of 17, he began playing Beach Volleyball competitively and earned multiple bids to the USA National Beach Championships. Nate coached at the collegiate level and for various high school programs in the area. As a primary training coach and coordinator for OT Volleyball in Sarasota, He has finished the club season with top 25 team each year and has 3 USAV National Championship appearances.
Alice Smithers (Head Swimming Coach) – As a native of Cincinnati, Alice brings her life of swimming and coaching with her as she begins her 19th year as head coach of the Cougars Swim Team. Alice was World Swimmer of the Year in 1970, when she broke three world records in the 100 and 200-meter butterfly. She was a part of the U.S. National Tea, 4 by 4 medley relay that set the World Record in Osaka, Japan. Alice’s greatest accomplishment is her wonderful family. Alice’s husband Bob is a 1965 Mooney graduate. Their children are Jason, Joshua, and Kristen, and they have seven amazing grandchildren.
Their eldest son Jason is a member of the Air Force Reserves where he has served our country in Djibouti, Africa, and Afghanistan. He lives in Lompoc, CA working for Craig Technologies as a Flight Safety Engineer. Jason has 2 daughters, Isabel an Priscilla, and a son Wade. Son Joshua (Class of ’95) and wife Natalie (Class of ’95) are both teachers and coaches. Joshua coaches football at Riverview HS and Natalie works at St. Martha School and is a realtor as Keller/Williams. They have 4 children, Jackson (2/12/02-4/27/05), Madison (CMHS 2022), Hope, and Trey. Daughter Kristen (Class of 98) is Head Coach at Orange Theory Fitness in Charlotte, NC.
Coach Maechtle enters his 5th season with the Cougars and his first season as the Head Varsity Head Coach. He served as the associate Head Coach and defensive coordination for Mooney prior to this appointment. Maechtle was a longtime Football coach for Southeast High School from 1981-2013. He compiled a record of 282-103, including back to back state championship in 1993 and 1994 and state runners-up in 1985, 1988, and 1989. Maechtle also served as athletic director from 1985-2014 and was a teacher in the social studies department. In 1993 he was named Florida Dairy Farmer’s Coach of the Year in the state of Florida. 2011, Coach Maechtle was inducted into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach and his wife Barbara have three children Tom, Jodi, and Matt. His grandson Tommy (CMHS 2017) played football and lacrosse for the Cougars and Robby (CMHS 2018) Played football and baseball for Mooney
Sean Koscho (ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH)
Coach Koscho returns for his 9th season with the Cougars football program. He has lived in Sarasota for the past 11 years with his beautiful wife Suzanne and their 3 children – Jack (CMHS 218), Sam (current member of Cougar football and class of 2019) and daughter Sally (8th grade at Sarasota Middle). His son Jack is continuing his football career and studies and Carnegie Melon this semester. Sean grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Harvard in 1992 with a degree in Economics. At Harvard, he was a three year starter for the varsity football team as a defensive back. Sean. Work as a Firefighter/EMT for the Sarasota Fire Department.
Scott Ruane (ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH)
Coach Ruane is in his 5th year serving as the offensive line coach for the Cougars. He is a Cardinal Mooney graduate of the class of 2010. He attended and graduated from Anna Maria University where he played football for the schools inaugural team in the NAIA league. He was a four-year member of the team and went on to help win the conference championship in his senior year with 8-2 record. Scott is an American History teacher at Mooney. Scott and his Wife, Julianna, have been married for 7 years and they have two daughters, Abigail and Lilian and a dog, Leonidas.
Ryan Barnhouse (ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH)
Coach Barnhouse is a three-year member of the Cougar Varsity Coaching staff, serving as co-offensive line coach. Ryan attended Glenville State College in Glenville, WV where he was a member of the Pioneer Football team. Following College, Ryan continued his playing career for 6 more years in the Arena and Minor Leagues. Prior to arriving at Mooney. Ryan coached at the high school and arena levels in West Virginia before relocating to Sarasota a few tears ago. Ryan and his wife Shannon, sons Braiden, Jayce and Michael live in Sarasota and Ryan is employed at CMHS in the maintenance department.
August Curley (ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH)
Coach Curley joined the Cougars coaching staff season and is pleased to be back for another year. He grew up in Atlanta, GA and graduated from Southwest High School in 1978 as three sport letter winner in football, basketball and baseball. He attended the University of Southern California on a football scholarship from USC’s Marshall School of business 1983 with a BS in Business Marketing. He was drafted in the NFL as the 94th overall pick in 1983 and selected in the 4th round by the Detroit Lions. August is married to Rochelle and they have two children, Daria and Miles, a junior at CMHS.
Chris Conboy (ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH)
A 1983 graduate of Cardinal Mooney, Coach Conboy enters his inaugural season with the Cougars football coaching staff. He has a BA from St. Thomas University in Miami, FL and a MS in Exercise Science from Western Maryland College (now known as McDaniel). Before returning to his alma mater this season, he coached the quarterbacks at Manatee High School for 8 years. He also worked in recruiting at USF and spent three years assisting current FSU linebackers coach Raymond Woodie at Bayshore High school. He also coached secondary at Western Maryland College for two NCAA play-off qualifying teams. Chris is married to Melissa with two sons, Christopher (14) and Collin (7).
Billy Huthman (ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH)
Coach Huthman brings over 20 years of coaching experience to his new position with the Cougars. He also joined the CMHS faculty this fall as a HOPE/PE teacher. He graduated from Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO were he was a four year starter, All-conference wide receiver and two year captain. He received his BA in Physical Education with a minor in health, as well as a Master’s in Education all from CMU. He has served as a head coach at Fayatte High School (MO), North Port and Cocoa Beach. Billy is married to Jenny and they have three children – Chase (19), Jesse (16) and Abby (13).
Kelvin Carter (ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH)
Coach Carter begins his first season with the Cougars. He was born and raised in Bradenton and graduated from Manatee High School in 2012. He served our country in the United States Army from 2012-15. He graduated from State College of Florida in 2016 and currently attends the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee. For the past three years he has been coaching youth league football. Coach Carter is excited to be part of the Cougar Football coaching staff.

Dane Gass has been coaching and teaching in Sarasota at the Out-of-Door Academy since 2011, with a brief stint in Orlando at Windermere Preparatory School in 2012.
Stu Christensen makes his debut on the Cougar coaching staff as he begins his first year as the head JV football coach.
Chuck Woods has returned to Cardinal Mooney JV football this being his 6th season as a coach.
Ryan Billings: Coach Billings is a 2010 graduate of Cardinal Mooney and is making his coaching debut with the Cougars. He is the assistant superintendent of the Palms at Forest Lakes. He lives is Sarasota with his wife Aurielle. He enjoys playing in amateur golf events around Florida and looks forward to passing on his knowledge of competitive golf to the Cardinal Mooney team this season.
Jay Nash (not shown): Coach Nash is a graduate of Incarnation Catholic School and of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School in 1981. He then graduated from Saint Leo University in 1985. Jay is currently the PGA Head Golf Professional at The Palms Golf Club at Forest lakes in Sarasota. He is married to Marcie and has two boys. Jake and Tanner who both attend Cardinal Mooney.
Debbie Butor: Varsity Cheerleading Coach
Debbie Butor: (Varsity Cheerleading Coach) Debbie is returning to the Cheer Program as head coach. She is looking forward to her 12th year of coaching cheer. She also enjoys working with both Varsity and JV squads and watching how they grow not only as cheerleaders, but as young ladies. Debbie also has been busy with her very own little cheerleader/granddaughter this year (Aria Calderone, 16 months old – daughter of Katelynn and Kurt, both Mooney Alumni). The cheerleaders have had an awesome summer with two camps and ready for football season. Go Cougars!
Bianca Coit: (Assistant Varsity Cheerleading Coach) The cougar Cheer Program is pleased to welcome Bianca in her first year on the coaching staff. Bianca was born and raised in Sarasota. She is a Cardinal Mooney alumnus and cheered all four years of her high school career. She attended Florida State University and earned a BS in Criminology in 2015. Bianca is very excited about joining the Cougar Family once again.

Ashley Dooley: (Junior Varsity Cheerleading Coach) The Cougar Cheer Program welcomes Ashley into her 5th year as the Head JV Cheer Coach. Ashley was born and raised in Sarasota. She is a Mooney graduate (where she cheered al four years), and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University. When she is not coaching cheer, Ashley is the Director of Client Relations for Fiduciary Wealth Advisors as well as, a realtor for Premier Sotheby’s International. She says one of her favourite things about coaching cheer is, “Watching the girls grow over the years, not only in their abilities as cheerleaders, but also in the confidence within them.”
Christyrae Ansley: (Junior Varsity Cheerleading Assistant Coach) The Cougar Cheer Program is pleased to welcome Cristyrae to their JV Cheer coaching staff. Cristyrae was a Ringling Redskins Cheerleader for 3 years and a Booker High School cheerleader for 4. She is married to Lynwood and they have three Children – Jessie, James (CMHS 2021) and Maryellen (St. Martha, 8th grade). Cristyrae is thrilled to be sharing her love for cheerleading with the Cougar Cheerleaders.

Coach Slentz is a graduate of Melbourne Central Catholic HS and earned his Bachelors degree from The University of FL in 2015. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in History from UF in 2017. Clayton has been coaching basketball at the HS level for eight years.
